The number of shrines is taken from the Association of Shintō Shrines. For the totals I have summed up the individual shrine numbers and this results in large discrepancies with the Association's totals. For Tokyo it give a total of 4,732 (sum of the parts is 1,989), for Saitama 4,603 (2001), and for Kanagawa 3,337 (1,408).
